Alex has over 25 years’ experience in specialist property finance and leads the social housing division at Sancus UK. With a background in affordable housing funding, he’s committed to supporting for-profit Registered Providers and delivering impactful, commercially sound finance solutions.

With 23+ years in commercial and corporate real estate finance, Alex joined Sancus in 2024. He has transacted across all UK property sectors, managing loan origination, relationships, and recoveries, and has a proven track record in strategic leadership.

Alexandra is an experienced banking professional and chartered manager. She has specialised in Development Finance for almost 8 years now, gaining expertise from the ground up in all aspects of due diligence and credit risk.
Andrew Charnley

Andrew joined Sancus in 2024 and was appointed Group CEO in 2026. He brings over 30 years of commercial lending experience, with a strong track record in driving growth, strengthening operations and building high-performing teams.
Bob Rowbotham
Relationship Director
Bob brings 40+ years of banking experience, particularly in Property Finance, to Sancus. He has held senior roles at NatWest, RBS, and Metro Bank, with a strong track record in lending and team leadership.
Clair Dempsie
Credit Operations Manager
Clair brings over 18 years in real estate finance, with deep expertise in credit, underwriting and operational risk. Before Sancus, she held a senior role at HTB, sharpening her deal execution skills while strengthening credit and operational frameworks. She takes a detailed, execution-focused approach to complex transactions.
Geoff Walton
Lending Manager
Geoff brings 30+ years’ finance experience to his role managing loan transactions at Sancus UK. Based in the North West, he previously held senior roles at Lloyds and Together Money, and is known for his attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to meeting deadlines.
Gary Mealing

Gary, Credit Director since 2017, has 30+ years of commercial and corporate banking experience from HSBC. He specialises in managing complex lending relationships and mitigating risk across various situations.
James Waghorn
CHIEF information OFFICER
James joined Sancus in 2021 with 13+ years of UK and European real estate experience, including 6 years leading Somerston's land development business, managing a 2,350+ unit portfolio. He holds a BSc and is MRICS accredited.
John Whittle
Independent Non-Executive Director
With a background in high-tech and fund administration, Chartered Accountant John offers in-depth financial expertise, particularly in M&A and strategic development. He holds multiple director roles, including at Starwood and Globalworth, and chairs key committees.
Jonny Kirk
Relationship Director, North of England
Jonny joined Sancus in 2024 as Relationship Director for the North of England, bringing 15+ years of real estate finance deal origination experience. He has worked for Lloyds Bank and various specialist lenders, covering development, bridging, and commercial term finance.

With 20 years of investment banking experience and a background as CFO of a private equity backed house-builder, Chartered Accountant Keith brings significant financial expertise to Sancus, particularly in M&A and capital raising.

Prior to joining Sancus, he held roles at Salboy, one of the UK’s leading property developers, and NatWest Group, where he gained experience working within a large institutional lending environment.

Harry has spent a large proportion of his career in Property/Development Finance and brings a strong understanding of both lender and developer perspectives. With 11+ years in UK real estate, Matthew joined Sancus in 2021. He managed large-scale hotel refurbishments for Somerston and was part of their strategic land development team. He holds an MBA and BSc in Architectural Technology.

Niamh supports the smooth and efficient running of our head office in Manchester, helping to coordinate essential operational and administrative functions while delivering a welcoming experience for visiting clients.

With 25+ years in development finance, Steve specialises in building long-term partnerships with developers and professionals. Formerly a Relationship Director at major UK banks, he combines commercial insight with a friendly, collaborative approach to support clients through complex funding requirements.

Stephen, appointed to the Board in 2021, has a distinguished career in real estate investment and strategy. He served as CIO of British Land and Global Head at AXA Real Estate, managing vast portfolios. His experience also includes Sun Life Properties and extensive governance work.
Steve Simpson

Steven Simpson, with 26+ years in IT, specializes in designing and administering secure solutions for finance and telecoms. He developed the Sancus Loan Management System and now serves as Head of Group IT at Sancus.
Tracy Clarke
Independent Non-Executive Director
Tracy, representing Somerston (the Company's largest shareholder), joined the Board in 2022. As Somerston's COO and Managing Director of Carlton Management Services, she brings extensive leadership and financial expertise. She is a Fellow of ICAEW and holds the CISI Investment Advice Diploma.
